squirrels, rabbits, and birds... oh my!

He barks and barks when he sees one. Today he was flipping himself off the privacy fence on the one side of the yard and trying to climb our chain link to get to a squirrel in a tree. Seriously.

Is this progress or I am I just use to it?

It is hard tell regarding the walking. I have been out with him at least 3 times a day (solo), and I do feel like he is getting better. There is still some pulling, but perhaps that is acceptable being that we are dealing with a young border collie. Hard to say. I was thinking of getting some feedback on that at class tomorrow night. We still have problems with birds, rabbits, squirrels, people, and dogs. Other than that, we have nice walks.

Kasey's coat is looking beautiful. It is like all of a sudden over night the dandrift is gone, and there is shine to his black. He really is beautiful.

The death of me

Seriously, he is going to be the death of me.

He is so stubborn about walking nicely on a leash! I have had this boy since November, and he still pulls. I have tried "stand like a tree" when he pulls; I have tried target the stick; I have tried clicker. I am now using a mixture of all three. UGH>>> I feel like my left arm is getting longer.

Last night he showed me what he thought of the target stick. I use bird perches. I have no idea how he got it, but he did. He was in the middle of chewing it when I woke up. The wood was just splintered everywhere! Ekk... What are the health ramification to this?

Progress is slow

That pretty much says it all. Kasey is now reacting to birds, squirrels, rabbits, people, dogs, ... It makes walking him a challenge. To be honest, it makes me not want to walk him at all. It also makes me not want to walk Holly because he can't handle it when we leave together. He has gone so far as throw himself up against the picture window.
A new session of class starts this week, we'll see...

He saw his first horse on Sunday. He was SOOOO excited. The horse wasn't. I took them to Green Valley and everytime someone passed us, I was sitting and treating. Sigh...

UGGGHHH...

I was sick almost all last week. It is very hard for a BC to go days without a walk. Altogether they run and chase in the backyard together, I still think it is hard.

Kasey managed to pull some of the curtain through his kennel Thursday. The result was him throwing up. We fasted him for 24 hours. This wasn't enough because Friday when I feed him, he started throwing up again. Off to the vet...

Except for the mean black dog in the waiting room, Kasey did well. I thought he would like it because it is another opportunity for someone to pet him, so besides the fact that he threw up 6 times in the car. I think he liked it there.
