Tracking: A dog' "Natural" sport

Today mom and I went to a tracking workshop. This really nice lady named Carla helped teach mom how to lay a track and then encourage me to use my nose. For so long I have been doing more eyeing on things that I would sometimes forget and look up. The track had food on it,... which was very cool. I actually liked the food better than anything else. I didn't even really want my ball or my Wubba. Can you believe it?

It was super hot. In the 90's so after awhile I just wanted the shade. Check out the pictures of my friends and I at work.

Mom thinks Holly might be better at this than me. We will have to see. Mom and Erin (nice lady with shelties that mom is friends with) are going to get together and practice. I hope I get to go too.

Storms, storms, storms...

I am afraid of thunder storms. For years, I have been taking a floral essence mixture that my mom buys from Dancing Hearts. She feels it really has worked, and I have been getting better over the years. This year I have TOTALLY lost it, so Mom bought me this nifty coat called the Thundershirt. It does help, kind of, but I have to have it on BEFORE the storm comes. I then take two Mellow Mutt treats and 5 doses of my special thunder mixture, then I just sit quietly. Otherwise, I pant and pace the house. Kind of like I did last night. When I am up, everyone one is up... which actually is kind of cool.

Manners Minder

Mom bought the Manners Minder to work with me and my panic barking during class. We started using it Saturday at Narnia at Blu's adoption party. They put  me in a crate and this machine would make noise and then drop a treat. I am not sure how, but I am pretty sure that Mom still somehow controls the treats, so I would watch her walking around the room, when all of a sudden a treat would fall. Trini was there barking like crazy because she wanted a turn ... sigh... girls.

We worked with it again today for a little while. I get it. Lie down and treats fall. It seems pretty cool, but I wonder where we are going with this?

And so it goes

Well, mom is starting to work with me on "fixing" my situation regarding the crate. Monday when I went to class, mom put me in the crate, completely covered, with a big meaty bone to chew. I was pretty happy because got... nothing, zilch, nada. Yup just me and my bone in privacy enjoying a nice relaxing chew. LOVE IT.

Sue had to work. ha,ha, ha,... after I was done with my bone, mom put me in the crate in the car until they were done. She is ordering a Manners Minder to take us "to the next step". Whatever that means.

Ruff night

I am not sure what happened. I went to work with mom on a Friday night, and while we don't normally work on Friday, it was much like any other night. Before class I was to play with this younger dog that needed some helps getting called back to his owner out of play. I must be honest, I didn't really enjoy playing with this dog. He was WAY too rough and in your face. I kept trying to let him know, but he would not listen. Mom said later that it was some of the hardest corrections I have ever given another dog... remember I am a lover not a fighter so this is not fun for me.

It just tapped me out. I went to my crate for the first class, but in the second class there was a little Boston Terrier that I REALLY wanted to know. Mom would not let me because she said I was too wound up. I started barking and could not stop. Eventually she put me in the back in a crate, and I just barked myself silly. She tried to DAP me, but it was too late. I was toast. Well over my threshold and emotionally spent, I guess. She felt sorry for me. I crashed once we got in the car and started home.

I am really sorry to have disrupted the class. I could not help myself. I am not a dog that demonstrates a lot of self control anyway. What fun it that? I am a live in the moment kind of kind dog; it is just mom usually does a better job of making those moments situations I can handle. This was not...

The Fridge is LOCKED!

Mom went to Buy, Buy, Baby and purchased a lock for the fridge. Evidently, she did not appreciate that I can hook my paw through the fridge door handle and pull it open. Just trying to help...
